The Eau Claire Transit Commission is considering cutting a bus route designed to take riders to a rendezvous with a Menomonie-bound bus. But don’t despair if you want to take public transit between the two cities: The Eau Claire Transit route in question, Express 12, was made obsolete in January when Dunn County Transit began sending a bus three times a day to the transfer center in downtown Eau Claire. Previously, the Dunn County bus met Eau Claire’s E12 bus at a McDonald’s on Eau Claire’s far west side three times a day. Essentially, by sending its bus to downtown Eau Claire, Dunn County Transit has cut out the middleman and saved riders the trouble of a transfer. Eau Claire’s E12 route – which also stops at the Menards headquarters, Chippewa Valley Technical College’s west campus, and other spots – is now sparsely used, so it makes sense to shift those resources, says Eau Claire Transit manager Mike Branco. This could mean keeping the route on the west side and changing how it operates or doing something completely different, such as adding a route to Carson Park (which the city doesn’t have). Branco says. If you’re interested in learning more or putting in your two cents about the route, the Eau Claire Transit Commission will hold a hearing on the possible route change at 6pm on Wednesday, April 16, in the council chamber at City Hall, 203 S.
