On February 11, City Council President Kerry Kincaid delivered Eau Claire's annual State of the City address. Kincaid emphasized the cooperation between the city and its citizens. In her remarks she praised many different cooperative efforts such as the Sustainable Bags Committee, whose main goal is to reduce the number of plastic bags in the community over the next several years. She continued to talk about other initiatives such as the Power of Ten Place Making Workshop, which consists of over 100 community members that have come together to plan a public space and also the Joint Commission on Shared Services, which is the only one of its kind in the state and helped create joint health care coverage for city employees that, in turn, saved the city hundreds of thousands of dollars. Kincaid ended the address with a quote by UWEC Chancellor Donald Mash about an observation by Don Kettl, a professor at UW-Madison and head of the State Commission on State and Local Partnerships, “There is more common sense and civility [in the Chippewa Valley] than anywhere else in the state.” You can watch the entire State of the City address above, courtesy of Chippewa Valley Community Television.
