EC Postal Service still looking for a new home

A newer, smaller Eau Claire post office might not be built on the former site of the downtown Burger King after all. According to WQOW-TV, the U.S. Postal Service recently sent a letter to the Eau Claire City Council stating that it hadn’t been able to secure that property, which sits al the corner of North Barstow and Madison streets. “The old Burger King location is still in the mix along with seven other sites, including some along Clairemont Avenue,” WQOW reported. The post office has been at 126 N. Barstow St. since the 1960s, but declining mail volume means that building is now too big. The city Redevelopment Authority, which owns the post office, has plans to demolish the structure to build a new parking facility, and the USPS has until Sept. 30 pack up its stamps and find a new home.
