The Ramada Saga Continues

Don’t worry, you’re not trapped in some sort of Groundhog Day style time loop; the Ramada on S. Barstow St. really is up for sale again. Already. If you missed our last post about the downtown hotel, allow me to catch you up to speed. The former owners of the hotel (Amarjit, Surinder, and Kanwal Singh) rebought the building at a foreclosure sale on July 2. The Singhs have owned the hotel since 2004 under SB Hotel Management Inc., which filed for bankruptcy in March.

However. According to a recent Leader-Telegram article the hotel is for sale yet again due to the Singh Brothers Properties inability to pay the remaining $1.263 million.

The prospect of a new owner could be a good thing for downtown Eau Claire. In recent years the Ramada has seen an abundance of building, health code, and financial problems; the Ramada chain even cut ties completely with the hotel. “Maybe this represents an opportunity for someone to buy this hotel who has the wherewithal to make it the kind of hotel we need downtown,” Eau Claire economic development administrator Mike Schatz told the L-T.

The hotel is currently being operated by S&L Hospitality of Verona, the court-appointed receiver, and is scheduled to be sold at a foreclosure sale on September 17.
