Weed (the band) hits the national radar

You all remember Weed, right? No, no. Not the German prog-rock band. The Weed I'm sure you remember is the blown out, punk rock project from Chippewa Falls native Will Anderson.

Anderson played music locally (including a stint in Laarks) before moving to Vancouver and honing his solo project turned band Weed. Over the past few years the band has found a following along the West Coast with a number of 7" singles, and now their set to release their debut full length. Deserve is out Sept. 10 via Couple Skate Records.

In advance of the record, Weed's released a couple of tracks (check below) that have turned some pretty big heads. "Set Me Back" – the lead single that holds a pop hook buried in the wall of guitar and Anderson's alternating deep and scrappy vocals – got favorable write ups on Pitchfork, Stereogum and Impose. More recently, Their second single "Silent Partner" just premiered on Seattle indie station KEXP and got picked up by NPR's national music podcast All Songs Considered.

Not bad for a kid from Chippewa Falls. You can preorder Weed's new release at Couple Skate Records.
