WHEN: Wisconsin’s spring general election will be Tuesday, April 2. Polls are open between 7am and 8pm.

WHERE: Your polling place will vary depending on where you live. To find your polling place, go to myvote.wi.gov, click on “Regular Voter” and then “Address Search.” (The website can also help you find out if you’re registered to vote at your current address and show you a sample ballot for your district.)

HOW TO REGISTER: For full information on how to register to vote, visit myvote.wi.gov. While you do not need to show a photo ID when registering, if you have a current, valid driver’s license you must provide the number and expiration date. If you don’t have a valid driver’s license, you can provide your state-issued ID number or the last four digits of your Social Security number. In the 20 days before an election, you can register to vote at your municipal clerk’s office up until the end of business hours on the Friday before an election or at the polls on Election Day. If you register at either the clerk’s office or at the polls, you must provide proof of residence, which can include: a driver’s license or other official state ID card; an ID card from an employer; a property tax bill; a utility bill; a bank statement or paycheck; a check or other document issued by a unit of government; a residential lease; a college photo ID card (only if you also provide a fee receipt from the institution dated within the last nine months); or an affidavit from a public or private social service agency identifying you as a homeless voter and describing your residence for voting purposes.

WHAT'S ON THE BALLOT(S)?

STATEWIDE: Two statewide, nonpartisan offices are up for grabs. Incumbent Tony Evers faces challenger Don Pridemore in the race for state superintendent of public instruction, while incumbent Justice Pat Roggensack competes with challenger Ed Fallone for a 10-year term on the state Supreme Court.

EAU CLAIRE SCHOOL BOARD: Five candidates are seeking three seats on the board: Mike Bollinger, a former board member; Christine Hambuch-Boyle; incumbent Bob G. Janke; Richard Spindler; and Chue Xiong. (Steven Lange’s name will appear on the ballot, but he has dropped out of the race.) Incumbents Ken Faanes and Brent Wogahn aren’t seeking re-election.

CHIPPEWA FALLS: Mayor Greg Hoffman and candidates for four City Council seats are running unopposed. On the Chippewa Falls school board, there are three seats available, but only two names will appear on the ballot: incumbents James M. Dimock and Jerry Smith (incumbent Larry Sommerfeld isn’t seeking re-election). Two others have registered as write-in candidates, but their names won’t appear on the ballot: Melanie Sinclair-Schaller and Steve LaBelle.

MENOMONIE: Six City Council seats are on the ballot, but there are only two contested races. In Ward One, incumbent Clark Edwin Smith faces challenger Jeff Luther. In Ward 3, former mayor Dennis Kropp will face Eric Sutherland for a vacant seat. Meanwhile, three seats are on the ballot for the Menomonie school board. Incumbents Jessica Bryan, Jay Fahl, and Brian Kieffer will face challengers Julie E. McFadden, David E. Styer, and Bob Salt.
