Quick Confluence Project Update
The Confluence Project continues to fly past barriers and get closer to becoming a reality. On Tuesday, all 11 members of the City Council gave an enthusiastic “yes.” They voted on a general development plan and a proposal to rezone the area near the Confluence Project site to allow for apartments on current commercial land, all of which had been previewed and discussed at earlier meetings. There are both gung-ho supporters of the project and unsure naysayers, but regardless, it seems that this vote will be the tipping point in making the dreams of the new downtown building a reality. The Eau Claire Historic Preservation Foundation is not so keen on the plan, and rightfully so, because several old buildings downtown will be razed to make room. On the band of supporters is RCU, having announced a donation of $1 million back in September.
