Milwaukee to see rebirth of “circus arts?”

Remember the dog shaped balloon you got at the circus as a kid? Or the trapeze artist soaring through the sky? Maybe the amazing juggler that tosses blazing objects through the air? All the freaky clowns?

Well with the help of Geoff Marsh, a professional circus entertainer, children and adults have the opportunity to learn the “tricks of the trade.”

Marsh opened the Milwaukee Community Circus School to the public on June 1. He is offering classes in acrobatics, balloon sculpture and physical comedy.

Wisconsin used to be home of the Ringling Brothers Circus and it attracted many other circus operations during the golden circus age. Now, the traveling circus that does go to Milwaukee comes every five years instead of every year.

Marsh plans to revive the instruction of circus arts in the Milwaukee area through his school. He hopes that the summer will prove to have enough success that he can turn it into a year-round operation.

Through Marsh’s work, maybe we will see a revival of the circus arts in Wisconsin, with or without the clowns.
