Amateur Love: Brad Cook, Josh Scott, Phil Cook, and Brian Moen. The Lake Street house
whose porch they’re standing upon has since survived a major fire and been rebuilt.
Too much blistering electro-pop?

It’s still a little early to actually see anything, but Justin Vernon’s Chigliak Records (an imprint label of Jagjaguwar) seems to be getting closer to reality. The label, which promises to re-release some of the area’s most beloved discs of yore, will introduce a much wider audience to the likes of Amateur Love and 12 Rods (only on vinyl with digital downloads). A month ago, Vernon told us ...

"Yeah. It’s happening. We’re gonna put out Amateur Love on vinyl – I believe in late February or early March. So it is happening. And we have plans to do a 12 Rods at some point, a Sarah Siskind, maybe some Happy Apple stuff. But it’s definitely happening. I’m really excited about it, and might even re-release some of my old solo shit on there. It’s just gonna be really fun. It’s gonna be vinyl and mp3’s only. So people will be able to grab Amateur Love on wax for the first time ever – and with some unreleased stuff, too. They were making a record when they broke up … so there’s about five songs that kind of got finished-ish, re-recordings of old ones, and three new ones that are gonna be downloads for people that buy the album."

Of course, the re-release of Amateur Love’s only album It's All Aquatic has got the locals buzzing. To many people, the band was once considered Eau Claire’s group du jour, with members Brad and Phill Cook going on to form Megafaun, and drummer Brian Moen going on to join Laarks and Peter Wolf Crier. The band’s fourth member, Josh Scott boarded an interstellar space hovercraft and exploded into the cosmos so he could check out the local music scene on Venus [citation needed].

As of postin’ time, Chigliak Records’ website appears to be mostly down. But if Vernon’s timeline stays true, you should be able to hear some of your old favorites in just over a month or so. Until then, check out the related video below.
