What a fruity tree.

When I was younger, a friend of mine had two pear trees in his backyard, and for a few weeks each year we would gorge ourselves on free fruit.  But after those few weeks all that was left was a yard littered with rotting pears, the trees produced so much fruit that even with all the pear pies, preserves and jams, dozens of pears went ... unused.  If the iPhone app from NeighborhoodFruit.com had existed back then, that wouldn’t have been a problem.

With over 10,000 fruit trees in their database, Neighborhood Fruit is a great resource for fruit growers and lovers alike.  When you find yourself with an excess of fruit, you simply register your tree and fill in some contact info and people looking to get their fruit can call you up or shoot you an e-mail and arrange a pickup.

If you’re looking to score some of nature’s sweetness you just type in your zip code and the distance you’re willing to travel and a list of trees in your area pops up.  They even have a mobile app for those who prefer to find their fruit on the fly.

As of right now, there no fruit trees from the Chippewa Valley registered with the service. Come on, people! Get your fruit on board!
