The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the federal government is looking to unload the Milwaukee Breakwater Light on Lake Michigan. First dibs go to local governments or nonprofits willing to keep it in working order but if no one steps forward the lighthouse could be sold to a private owner.

Built in 1926 the Milwaukee Breakwater Light sits off the coast of Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee. While it would be totally awesome to own a lighthouse the giant beacon would be far from an ideal place to live. The lighthouse is inaccessible from land and requires a boat to get to, but one problem with boating there is the lack of jetty or dock. There is also the foghorn that blasts during the night from April to November and weather so rough it requires half-inch thick glass on the windows to keep the water out.

However if the drawbacks to living in a lighthouse don’t turn you off this historic lighthouse could be yours for the right price.
