Falling Up
Our voices skip like stones
Across the lake
Tossing and turning
Under its blanket of stars
The rhythm of its fitful breathing
Wrings promise from our tongues
And ripples through our muscles
Gliding like kites
Slipping across the sky of our skin
The canvas of our sin
Clouds parting
As we paint each other to the edge
Of what we used to know
And leap
Fingers knotted
Entwined
The smooth night air
Rushing around the bullet of our blushing bodies
Until we burn through the atmosphere
And slow to a weightless tumble
Afloat in a sea of space
Together
Our smiles
Stretching light years
Around the curve
Of the cosmos
