Burning
The outlying horizon
A vivid fire cooling
The smoke curling into a spiral
Flames, richly coated in orange
Ease with a hiss of wind
The sky turns golden
In a small effort to satisfy
The tundra freezes over again
Like scorching water on wintry pavement
You think it is finished
Until a branch hurls into the pit
Turning sparks into missiles
It grins frigidly at you
Instinctively, you cringe
As if you’ve heard thriving thunder
At the peak of a sinister storm
You know the worse is to come
My enemy lives again
