Beginning, Middle and End

This is the beginning.
A faint cry of a newborn child,
The quiet patters of a toddler’s first steps.
The first words that pass through your lips.
Silly giggles while you play peek-a-boo,
As you watch your parents with wide eyes,
And they watch you.

This is the middle.
Fights over little things that you realize mean nothing.
Little problems that irritate you constantly.
Here, you’ve figured out it’s too late to follow your dream.
Distance begins to form between you and your parents.
No more peek-a-boo…hardly even a phone call.

This is the end.
Your memories start to fade,
Parents are no longer here with you, with words left unsaid.
You could pass in your sleep, a car accident,
Or even a gun to your head.
Your life flashes before your eyes,
And it better be worth watching.
