Goodnight

Your heart breaks
As the glowing blue sky
Changes and shifts
You know its coming
But your eyes open
You give it a chance
And take a look
At the mixture of pinks
Purples
Oranges
Reds
As day breaks
And your heart
Smiles
Warms
And puts itself
Back together
Like a newly solved puzzle
Time flies by
In a blink of an eye
And darkness
Fills the air
Drowns out the easy afternoon
As a snake
Coils around its prey
Squeezing
Until it’s lifeless
Gone—
For now
The darkness
Is so deep, and so dark
You can almost feel it
Smell it
Taste it
It coils around you
Like the light of the once glowing sky
But you don’t fear
You see the twinkling stars
Winking at you
Guiding you
And making you smile ear to ear
Once again
They make you feel
Like a little kid at Christmas time
Excitement
Amazement
Joy
Your eyes now droop
Like an old hound dog
They close
You sleep
Like you do every other night from routine
But with night routine—
Comes dreaming
Night
And darkness
Is staring you
Straight in the face
Goodnight
