The Chapel

ye who stand here shall be judged
the island
the chapel
the lake
the ice
the snow
it’s all coming back to me in flashes
as we make our way to the island
I hadn’t been there in years
the sounds
the scenery
were all so familiar
if you looked hard
you could see Reynolds Field across the lake
there was something
I just couldn’t place my finger on it
they stayed
I went
up to the chapel
heavy door
opening
dirt floor
no windows

it hit me hard
this was my home
I’ve been here so long
