Existence

She wants to shine,
But has no light of her own.
She wants to have power,
But is so far away.
She wants to travel her own path,
But is so much smaller.

She hangs alone
In the still darkness,
The cold stars so distant.
The lender of her light
Stares past the one
Who controls her passage.

The only comfort
Of her bleak journey
Are the waves,
So far below.
They, alone,
Follow her.
