I need a shovel this big.

Well, twenty-two inches of snow fell on our heads last weekend, destroying the previous record for ginormous amounts of snow falling in a 24 hour period. The last record – 13.5 inches on March 19, 2005 – pretty much got kicked in the snowbanks. The snow fell 1-2 inches per hour, and it drifted as high as 5 feet in some (probably annoying) places.

Today’s sub zero temperatures seem to be hardening the snow, so all those cars left on the streets that got plowed in are probably locked into an icy prison by now, waiting to be extracted like Excalibur by some worthy and thoroughly disgruntled Wisconsinite.

If you haven’t been mesmerized with pictures and video of the Metrodome collapsing, perhaps you noticed that The Washington Post picked up a few storm photos from Leader-Telegram, including one of UWEC students playing a spirited game of Shirtless Blizzard Corn Hole (click #5). Not sure if these kids are making us look tough or stupid. Or both.

 

Yes, the city
actually uses it.
