County Treasurer Howland shot a white deer near Hannibal the other day and has brought it in. The Daniel Boone Hunting Club of the city- eleven members- have brought in 22 deer.
Chad’s Take: Daniel Boone Club? I Want In!
Every year around Thanksgiving I try to dig up an interesting hunting story from the Chippewa Valley. Dedicated readers may remember my prior Thanksgiving story of a man being savagely attacked by a caged buck. This year I decided to include the story of a white deer being bagged near Chippewa Falls. Unfortunately, the article did not specify whether the creature was a true albino or rather just a white deer. Yet regardless of how interesting a white deer being killed is, the main draw for me in this article is the mention of the Daniel Boone club that had eleven members throughout the Chippewa Valley. I miss the days when these odd little groups flourished throughout the country. When I was doing research in IL I stopped into the Popeye Museum that was located in the home town of the cartoon’s creator. Although I am not a huge fan of Popeye, I ended up joining his fan club just because it was a bit odd and seemed a little wacky. Now thanks to this article I may have another eccentric club to join.
Keep an eye out…
