GAYNGS to slow jam Jimmy Fallon

Tonight, the Midwest’s indie hipster supergroup GAYNGS will take over the music stage on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (11:35pm, NBC/WEAU). The band will be paired down from its 24-member full rockin’ capacity to a more manageable ten (those other 14 people mostly just sing a little back up, play an egg shaker, or stand around looking cool anyhow). It’s the group’s network TV debut. Is America ready? The part of it that’s awake and watching NBC past midnight probably is. At any rate, it should be a cool show.

In case you didn’t know, GAYNGS is a kind of Minneapolis-Eau Claire-Other Places conglomeration of young musicians cranking out seventies-stained slow groove rock with an ambiguous mess of ironically-ironic anti-hipster stage presence and marketing. The group features current and former Eau Claire (and Minneapolis) musical favorites including but certainly not limited to Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce (Bon Iver); Brad and Phil Cook, and Joe Westerlund (Megafaun); Adam Hurlburt (Solid Gold); and the group’s mastermind Ryan Olson (Digitata).

Host Jimmy Fallon, who’s referenced Bon Iver on numerous occasions, is predicted be to be extremely giddy/spazzy whilst introducing the band. Find out pretty much nothing more at www.gayngs.net. Check out some GAYNGS videos here.
