Local songwriter wins film's song writing contest
Local songwriter Brian Bethke is bringing the beer – to a movie premiere/concert near Osseo on Saturday, that is. He wants to thank his fans for their support in helping him win the Last Rites of Ransom Pride songwriting contest. Bethke entered the contest about six months ago. He recorded a song, submitted it, and according to Bethke, “the rest is history.”
Not only did Bethke receive $2,000 dollars for the win, his song "The Silence" will be featured in the movie trailer for Last Rites of Ransom Pride, which will be released this month. Directed by Tiller Russell and starring Dwight Yoakam, Kris Kristofferson, Jason Priestly, and Lizzy Caplin (shown above), Last Rites of Ransom Pride is a Western set at the Texas-Mexico border that involves a prostitute trying to claim the body of her murdered lover. Obviously, gun-toting action ensues. Listen to "The Silence" ...
Bethke’s October 2 event at Whispering Pines Campground will include a concert at 9pm and a movie premiere at midnight. And Bethke says a surprise guest from the film may make an appearance. But even if they don’t, you’ll get a kick out of Yoakam giving Bethke a shout-out in the flick. Not to mention this is also the first chance to pick up Bethke’s new seven-song EP, The Silence. Tickets are free, but a night of camping is not unless you get tickets before the event. Call 597-2004 for more details.
