Saturday: Chalkfest 2010

Mike Paulus |

Imagine a small park overtaken by a day-long firestorm of creativity and positive community energy, culminating in yards and yards of sidewalk space displaying amazing chalk artwork. That’s Chalkfest, going on all dang day today. This third annual event will take place all day in beautiful Wilson Park, between Farwell and Barstow Streets in downtown Eau Claire. In addition to the artwork, on-site in the park there will be food, music, chalk-related games (including Pictionary tournaments, artist duels, etc) and much more throughout the day and into the evening. There will also be an area for younger kids to participate in a large kids’ mural. Not to mention the events and activities of Summerfest just a couple blocks down the street. (Wilson Park; Sat. 11am-7:30pm; free)

FUN | Summerfest: Downtown Eau Claire's hottest summer festival features something for everyone, big or small. Enjoy sensational food, live music including Last Open Road, and hundreds of classic cars lined up along the streets. Shop, browse, and see what downtown has to offer. Kids can enjoy old fashioned games, a silly string war zone, a petting zoo, pony rides and more. New this year, the American Strongman Competition is coming to Eau Claire. See some of the nation's strongest men compete for the title of America's Strongman. (South Barstow Street, downtown Eau Claire; Sat. 10am-10pm)

FUN | Old Fashioned Family Fun Day:This inexpensive, all-inclusive day of family fun supports the renovation of the Hilkrest Rural School exhibit at the Rassbach Heritage Museum. Participate in candle making, mineral digs, fortune telling, treasure hunts, educational demonstrations, silent auction unique family-focused items, food and drinks from area restaurants and carriage rides through Wakanda Park. (Russell J. Rassbach Heritage Museum; Sat. noon-4pm; 8 ages 12+, $5 ages 4-11, ages 3 and younger free)

MURDER | The Mystery of Edwin Drood: Eau Claire Children's Theatre musical based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens. When the show stops half way through Act Two the audience goes through a series of votes to determine how the show ends – a different ending each night!
