Fairground events to happen “every weekend?”

According to WEAU.com, as the Northern Wis. State Fair’s stages are dismantled and as this year’s horse poop is shoveled away forever, organizers are talking about hosting extra events on the grounds, perhaps “ever weekend,” year-round. Really?

  • Executive Director Rusty Volk says organizers are brainstorming ways to keep these grounds in use every weekend.
  • "Currently, we're completing our feasibility study on a multi-purpose center, community center type building that we would like to put up on these grounds," Volk said.
  • He says he knows there is a lot of weekend entertainment to compete with in the Chippewa Valley, but he says with these fairgrounds they can also focus on kids and accommodate all ages.

What kind of events are we talking about, here? They must be talking about conventions and such, not just public entertainment. But hey, having attended the Northern Wis. State Fair last weekend for the first time in about 15 years, I gotta say – they could have a Holstein judging contest every weekend and I’d be there. Throw up a corn dog stand outside, and I’d never leave. Seriously, if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Side note: I also enjoyed the llama costume contest. I enjoyed it very much.
