Mowing through the Northern Wisconsin State Fair

Did you know we have a “Wisconsin Lawn Mower Racing Association?” Well, we totally do. And as the L-T points out, WLMRA members will be racing their turbo-charged mowers on Sunday during the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, replacing the concert that usually happens on the last day of the fair.
Fair director Rusty Volk wanted to try something new, so he turned to tricked out riding lawn mower races. We’re assuming Sunday concert ticket sales weren’t doing so well, and they’re looking to give attendance a shot in the arm. And I gotta admit, watching dudes zip around on souped up mowers definitely sounds more appealing than watching the remaining members of Foreigner blast out the tunes of old.
I actually haven’t been to the fair in years – not since high school – but I was thinking of going this year. However, I’m not looking for “new and exciting” so much as “quirky and kitschy.”
