Details are kind of scant on this, but just today, 10-year-old blues guitar prodigy Tallan "T-Man" Latz spoke in front of a state Senate committee about a law which prohibits children from performing in Wisconsin bars and clubs. Leaving aside questions of whether or not a ten-year-old can, in fact, actually have the blues, here's what the AP says:

• GOP Sen. Neal Kedzie of Elkhorn has introduced a bill on behalf of 10-year-old Tallan Latz.
• Latz's father, Carl, went to Kedzie after the state questioned the legality of Tallan's performances at festivals and bars where alcohol is served.

Kedzie proposes altering The Law so children can perform in taverns and nightclubs with a parent present before 9pm on “school nights” and 10pm on other nights. The change would only cover music and theatre-style shows. It must pass the Committee on Children and Families before it's up for full Senate debate.

I’m assuming “children” means under the age of 18? If so, I thought laws were already in place about kids performing in bars as long as a parent is present. Unless I’m getting that mixed up with our drinking laws. Or something. Anyone out there know what’s what?
