Mega tourism revenue through ... excellent meeting facilities?

To be honest, this makes total sense in today’s economic climate and all, but wow, it sure sounds lame. The twin powers of Wisconsin's Department of Tourism and Department of Commerce (along with that scrappy Governor Doyle) are hoping to persuade the fine leaders of Wisconsin-based companies to hold their business meetings in the ol’ home state instead of more exotic and sexy locales like Las Vegas, New York City, Branson, or Colonial Williamsburg. JSOnline sez ....

  • The campaign will encourage chief executive officers, presidents and decision-makers of companies headquartered in Wisconsin, and those with substantial operations here, to choose Wisconsin locations for conventions, trade shows, training sessions and board meetings. An increase in meetings will create more tax revenue and jobs for the state, Doyle said.
  • Wisconsin cannot offer the glitz and glamour of places such as Las Vegas and New York, Doyle said. But it can offer great value, and excellent convention and meeting facilities, he said.

The campaign, unveiled today, is called "Meetings Mean Business for Wisconsin." Taking the message to heart, Volume One plans to continue holding its annual shareholders meeting at the Menomonie Street Dairy Queen.
