INFO: The staff and friends of Volume One will produce Eau Claire's first-ever, web-based variety show telethon as a part of Volume One's 2010 Membership Drive this Friday, December 11 from 1-4pm on VolumeOne.org. Special guests will include Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver), author Michael Perry, and world-record whipcracker Adam Winrich. Performing will be musical guests the Daredevil Christopher Wright, the New North String Band, and South Farwell. Plus appearances by historian Frank Smoot, paranormal investigator Chad Lewis, State Theatre director Ben Richgruber, members of the Chippewa Valley Roller Girls, members of the Floor Dusters Breakdancing Crew, and more. AND, live art, live animals, live magic, and the V1 Bill Hamilton House Band. Various Volume One writers and editors will host the show.
Social media will also play a big role. Embedded right along side the broadcast will be live Twitter and Facebook feeds where viewers can log in to comment on, and interact with the telethon right there on the VolumeOne.org homepage. "We hope to actively engage our combined 3,500 fans and followers on Twitter and Facebook and get them involved with the action through comments, links, and good old-fashioned word-of-mouth," said editor/publisher Nick Meyer.
The lo-fi, multi-camera shoot will broadcast live from the Volume One World Headquarters in downtown Eau Claire (17 S. Barstow) and is part of an effort to expose viewers to Volume One's membership program. "People often ask us how they can help our community efforts at Volume One," said Meyer. "Maybe they can't write or contribute creatively, but they still want to be involved. Our membership program is a way they can directly contribute to our efforts and get all sorts of cool local gear in the process."
The five levels of Volume One memberships all include the V1 Card, featuring 76 deals at local businesses members can use all year long. Upper levels also include V1 t-shirts, art cards, and stickers – as well as local music, local books, and more – all focused on our local culture. Find out more about the Volume One memberships at: http://volumeone.org/memberships. The membership drive launched in mid-November.
