MEDIA ALERT: Great Halloween Photo and Video Opportunity!
Downtown Eau Claire, WI -- Every Halloween (or this year, on Friday October 30) for the past few years, thousands of kids and parents have converged on Barstow Street to go Trick-or-Treating from storefront to storefront in downtown Eau Claire, from 3 to 5pm. A good time, sure, but nothing too scary.
For the second year, the staffers at Volume One magazine (17 S. Barstow St.) are taking their involvement up a notch, adding drama and mystery to the street in front of their office with a mini Tunnel of Terror for kids to walk through FREE to get to the candy.
"We're not just passing out a bunch of free candy all willy-nilly," said Volume One publisher Nick Meyer. "These kids are going to have to earn it...in the Tunnel of Terror!"Before they'll be rewarded with their free Tootsie Pop or Resse's Peanut Butter Cup, kids who want candy from the Volume One office must enter a makeshift tunnel (built from an EZ-up tent) filled with spooks and surprises, before arriving at a glowing red chamber. There they'll be rewarded with the goods, but then must turn back through the tunnel to return to reality. Fog, lights, speakers, and multi-media projection will be used to create the effects at the Tunnel, both inside and out.
"We just like to go all out whenever we can to make downtown events fun not only for the participants, but for ourselves as well," Meyer said. "And what says more fun than hundreds of screaming kids in a downtown Tunnel of Terror?"
A short 1-minute video of the 2008 event can be seen here: http://volumeone.org/videos/categories/2/268.html And a set of photos can be seen here: http://volumeone.org/photos/albums/14/56.html
While Volume One's Tunnel of Terror at 17 South Barstow will be easy to spot on the street, other participating business will be marked by a pumpkin outside their doors.
