Tonight: Plan Commission to Engage in Jail Talk

Mike Paulus |

If you’d like to let the Eau Claire Plan Commission know what you think about the county’s proposal for a downtown jail – for good or ill – tonight’s the night (Monday). Just head on down to the trusty ol’ Council Chamber (City Hall, 203 S. Farwell St.) at 7pm. These are the people who’ll be analyzing the county’s request to rezone the land along the river for a bigger, beefier jail/courthouse complex. Their recommendation will then go to the Eau Claire City Council, which is where the switch gets flipped to either a red light or a green light. (The yellow light – a.k.a., the tedious and expensive delay lantern – has been lit for about a year). This is the first of the last two public hearings on the matter – the City Council hearing is Monday, June 22 – so if you have something to say, you bes’ say it soon.
