Chippewa Falls youth solves sausage conundrum

Nothing annoys me more than a bun that won’t hold its brat, man. And I guess Chippewa Falls 9-year-old Sydney Claxton is with me on that. And he’s got two ribbons from the Parkview Elementary Inventor’s Fair to prove it. The kid invented a brat bun that’s, get this, curved like a brat. According to the L-T (via TwinCities.com), Sydney and his dad ...

  • were driving around town when Sydney asked a simple question.
  • "He said, 'How come brats are curved, but all the buns are straight?' " Jeremy Claxton recalled. "I looked back at him, and I said, 'Dude, I don't have an answer.' "

Well, Dudes, that lack of an answer let to a solution that eventually became a bread-based reality – and a big success at the pre-mentioned inventor’s fair. He took top honors in the “Judges Choice” category, but not in a peer-judged category. But, like a true entrepreneur, he  told the L-T, "I don't care — at least I'm making money!"

Yep – peer pressure be damned, this kids making some dough. (Oh, bakery snap!). Sydney's Curvy Brat Buns are available in Chippewa Falls from the Connell's Orchard shop, baked every Friday at five for $2.50. Sydney’s college fund gets a portion of the proceeds. Call ahead to guarantee an order. Check out a picture of Sydney and his much-ballyhooed bun.
