Across its initial 60-year run, Toys “R” Us became a generation-spanning icon of childhood play. The self-proclaimed world's biggest toy store (chain) was once referred to as a “category killer,” putting big-box stores to shame with its laser focus and expansive approach to stocking toys of all kinds – until it filed for bankruptcy in 2017.

Less than a decade ago, the toy store chain was all but put to bed, having closed over 800 locations during its bankruptcy. Then, the brand was acquired by WHP Global, sparking a stunning comeback that has been fueled by nostalgia and desire for in-person experiences.

This September, Toys R Us announced a major expansion plan set to open 120 standalone stores across the country. Now, as announced by Oakwood Mall (4800 Golf Rd., Eau Claire) on Nov. 4, Eau Claire is officially getting in on the action.

Keep up with Oakwood Mall on social media for updates on Toys "R" Us and future news.

Joy Brantner, a property management associate at Oakwood Mall, confirmed Toys “R” Us is the latest addition to the regional shopping hub and will be making its home just off of the food court. In recent months and years, the mall has also welcomed Claw Kraze, Exotic Snack Guys, Just Cozy among others.

Within the next two weeks, Toys “R” Us will open in a 5,000-square-foot space between the Buckle and Exotic Snack Guys, Brantner shared.

So get those holiday shopping lists ready, because Toys “R” Us is so back.
