TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT. A new skateboarding brand, One More Try, was recently brought to life by local Gabe Brummett – a core member of the Eau Claire Skateboarders Association. His goal: make products for locals who don’t give up "until we land it the way we want." Currently, the retail-driven business offers skate decks, apparel (T-shirt pictured), stickers and more. If you are familiar with the skateboarding scene in Eau Claire, you likely know or have seen local skater Gabe Brummett at popular spots like Boyd Park, landing tricks or imparting wisdom onto young skateboarders through the Eau Claire Skaters Association. Gabe’s latest venture, an alternative skateboarding brand, shows themes of persistence and humor to connect with fellow skaters.

I spoke with Gabe about the origins and inspiration for the brand, called One More Try Skateboards, and learned how his lifelong passion for skateboarding has translated into a vision for this new skate venture.

Gabe admits that not much thought was put into One More Try at first, and as stubborn as Gabe can be while trying to land a trick, needed the help and inspiration of a friend or two.

“I realized that I have friends that have started skate brands, and I've done all these things with the Eau Claire Skaters Association. I thought starting a brand should be pretty chill. I want to give it a shot,” he said. “I was like, yeah, I could do it, and maybe it'll take off. Who knows? If not, oh, well.”

Gabe’s project eventually did get off the ground, and with the help of a friend from college, brought his vision to life in the form of geometric and punk inspired designs that reflect the heart of – which Gabe describes as being a combination of things.

“It's words of encouragement for yourself or for others when you're skating,” he explained. “Or it's that OCD fixation that skaters will have on perfecting a trick.

“It’s when skaters go ‘That didn’t feel right, one more try.’ So, one more try is never ‘one more try,‘ it's usually like 50 more tries.”

The new local brand is all about fun, skateboarding and the people it was made for: the skaters.
