Right now, a look outside reveals the first signs of autumn: warm-toned hues are unfolding across the tree leaves and the morning air is crisp.
Whether you’re settling into a new school year or bracing for a busy fourth quarter at work, the thing carrying you through all of it is your health. Your energy, your sleep, how well you recover, and how you handle a full season.
All of that runs through your nervous system. It’s what tells your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, your food to digest, and your body to heal itself while you sleep.
There’s a lot of talk right now about how to support your nervous system, from cold plunges and breathwork to sleep trackers and yoga. Every one of those has its place, and if you’ve found something that helps you, keep doing it.
What rarely comes up is the spine, the structure protecting that whole system and the place where communication can get interrupted.
“Your spine is the suit of armor around your nervous system, which is reacting and adapting to your day-to-day life and stressors,” Dr. Lona Cook, founder of Chippewa Falls’ Cook Chiropractic, explained. “Our systems can freeze under stress, compromising your body’s ability to function well.
“Chiropractic care can help your body unwind and reboot itself,” she said.
This kind of simple yet vital education, helping people understand their bodies’ signals and providing consistent care to address those signals, has been the guiding tenet of the local practice.
Over the course of 15-plus years, Cook Chiropractic has become a community cornerstone for families who want to understand how their bodies work and stay well, rather than chase symptoms. That longtime care manifested into a growing team of great chiros and creation of Well Adjusted Students Inc., the nonprofit arm that has brought chiropractic care and access into local public schools for the last 10 years.
Well Adjusted Students helps families access the benefits of chiropractic and has made significant effort into research around chiropractic care and the nervous system for children.
Offered in over 16 locations in the CV and in the Chippewa Falls Area School District for nearly 10 years, measurable data and anecdotal feedback have shown that these chiropractic visits can transform kids’ and educators’ ability to regulate their bodies.
“This has been a grassroots project, beginning in 2016, with great people with hearts to help our communities, schools, staff, and families with access for more holistic care being at the forefront of our mission,” says Dr. Lona.
That emphasis on understanding the nervous system and brain-to-body connection is exemplified by each of the practice’s doctors: Dr. Lona, who teaches that health flows from the above-down-inside out, and that the body already knows how to heal when nothing is interfering with it; Dr. Jacob Minnick, who teaches on the nervous systems role in great function, like strength, recovery, and sleep, Dr. Kami Kuester, who encourages practice members to “read their own signals” by listening to their body through indicators like energy, stress, and eating patterns.
And, as of this year, a familiar face is now practicing at Cook Chiropractic with a strong focus on women’s and perinatal care: Dr. Alice Kephart.
Eau Claire residents may recognize Dr. Kephart for her previous practice, Rejoice Chiropractic, and its ethos —which echoed that of Cook Chiropractic.
Dr. Kephart has brought her perinatal and pediatric work with her, caring for women through pregnancy and postpartum, as well as babies and kids. Pregnancy is the season when a woman’s nervous system carries the most, and it often gets the least attention.
“Just like we did at Rejoice, we want to give you plenty of chances to learn and understand your health from a vitalistic lens,” Dr. Kephart said. “You are incredible, and you hold so much possibility to heal, thrive, and create the life you want.”
Each facet of Cook Chiropractic, from its Chippewa Falls office to in-school care and its nonprofit arm, works together to remove barriers that could keep people from feeling their best.
Similarly, offering the “why” and “how” behind chiropractic care and encouraging continuous education works in tandem with an affordable first visit. For $47, an initial visit to Cook Chiropractic includes a consultation, scans, and a sit-down with one of the team of chiros and first adjustment.
You can get a glimpse into their work for free via “Doc Talks,” the team’s podcast and YouTube channel where the doctors answer the questions they’re asked most.
In the community, the team offers more in-person expertise at events like this November’s Women’s Wellness Event on November 7th 2026, co-hosted with Eau Claire Acupuncture.
“We want to help change the paradigm,” Dr. Cook said. “To trust your own doctor within, to fully understand your health, and to embrace what you’re capable of; change and healing are always possible.”
