Inaugural Wisconsin Quilt Shop Hop Comes To Chippewa Valley
first-time statewide event encourages quilters to visit their favorite and new-to-them shops

Attention all quilters in the Chippewa Valley and beyond! Time for a road trip by car, train or plane for the first-ever All Wisconsin Shop Hop, a statewide quilting event (and adventure!) where participants pick up a passport and travel to participating quilt shops.
Each hopper will receive a free collectible five-inch quilt square from participating shops as a thank you for participating. Hoppers are also eligible to win some fabulous prizes, depending on how many shops they visit: fabric, quilt kits, patterns, thread, sewing machines and more – even a quilting cruise.
For locals, consider popping by these participating Chippewa Valley shops, from Sept. 1-Oct. 31.
What to Pack for the All Wisconsin Shop Hop
1. Several canvas tote bags to separate your fabric by shop or by project
2. A small notebook and pen for note-taking of what each shop has to offer, or make notes of what you would come back for
3. A project to work on while traveling
4. Water and snacks to keep you energized during your trip

Owner Mailyn Goodwin has owned a quilt shop for 18 years — 17 years in Maine, and now, a little over a year in Elk Mound. She highly recommends the All Wisconsin Shop Hop.
“When we had our shop in Maine, we participated in the All New England Shop Hop for two years prior to moving to Elk Mound,” Marilyn shared. “It’s a wonderful time of year to participate in a shop hop. You can take in the wonderful fall views as you hop from shop to shop to pick up quilting supplies to get you through the winter. Perhaps you will meet up with my customer from Florida who is extremely excited to do the shop hop!”

Owner Chris Daly began dyeing her own fabrics and opened her own shop in 2007 which continued through 2017, when she stopped due to the growth of Woodland Ridge Retreat, which she had opened in 2013. When COVID hit in 2020 and retreat reservations canceled, she pivoted and listed all her fabrics on her then inactive website – and Dye Candy Fabrics was born.
“I like to call it an accidental fabric store,” she said. “Our store specializes in elegant and artistically inspired fabric.”
Chris hopes this event will introduce Dye Candy Fabrics to a broader group of customers, as well as make them aware of quilting workshops held at her Woodland Ridge Retreat.
“The Shop Hop is a great way to learn what is available to quilters on a statewide level,” Chris said. “There are lots of chances to win prizes, including a quilting cruise.”

Mennonite couple and owners, Jonas and Louella Martin, started their quilting shop in their garage before it moved to their shed. In 2004, they expanded and opened their current store.
“We were invited to participate in the Shop Hop, and we’re looking forward to sharing our fabrics with our current and new customers,” Louella said. “I’ve found that more and more young girls are getting into crafting, quilting, and sewing; so they are not becoming lost arts.”

Kris Isaacson has owned the Fiber Lab since 2023, though the shop itself has been around longer than that. Fiber Lab features ample classroom areas for quilting, knitting and crocheting, as well as a cozy area for crafters to gather.
Fiber Lab has participated in several other quilt shop hops, Kris shared, because they're fun. “We meet people from all over Wisconsin and numerous other states,” she said. “The customers are traveling shop-to-shop doing something they enjoy, so they come in excited, and the feeling is infectious.”
She continued: “Anyone interested in quilting — beginning to experts — should participate. The All Wisconsin Shop Hop Magazine is a must. It includes maps, contact info, and hours for all the participating shops. It also includes five plus patterns, which makes the magazine a bargain in-and-of-itself. Most importantly, it has the passport that they will need to show where they’ve been and to enter in the prize drawings.”
