“Girl with a Steel Umbrella“ by Marie Ronnander

Marie Ronnander, is a scientist and an artist from the East Hill of Eau Claire. She currently lives in Girona, Spain.

“Girl with a Steel Umbrella” (2021) • 14" x 10" • Oil and glass on canvas • About the artwork, from the artist: “Girl with a Steel Umbrella is the first piece in a triptych series focused on the process of aging. Bright primaries are used to emulate the coloring of children’s toys and invoke the feeling of nostalgia. Above the young girl, shattered bottles are used in the form of rain, but don’t worry! Her steel umbrella will protect her from just about anything. The two following pieces, Hand intertwined, and Girl with a Golden Locket use imagery from this initial piece to remind viewers that simple moments from our childhoods are eternally part of us. No matter how we may physically and mentally change, we were all once children playing in puddles.”
