“Childhood Memory“ by Ella Oestreicher

Ella Oestreicher is a college student studying ecology working on her drawings in her free time.

“Childhood Memory” (2022) • 14" x 17" • Colored pencils and strathmore paper • About the artwork, from the artist: "In ‘Childhood Memory,’ Ella Oestreicher depicts the fleeting memory one may have of their upbringing. While someone is often told their childhood was full of many warm feelings, when trying to recall their childhood, it may be frustrating in being unable to do so. The monotone background places emphasis on the youthful resting head. The resting head depicts the remaining memories of one’s childhood that are held fondly and close to the heart, while the background shows the rest of their memory that has faded into something unrecognizable. The surrealist drawing serves as a reminder to not fixate on trying to remember but rather let the remaining memories have their peaceful rest.”
