Calling All Tweed Aficionados & Vintage Cyclists!
put on your best sartorial-style 'fit and ride on over to River Prairie Park for this first-time event
Join the first of what organizers hope becomes the annual Tweed Bike Ride of the Chippewa Valley! The inaugural event invites riders of all ages and abilities to show off their best tweed and wool outfits and cycle adornments. Vintage bikes are a bonus; modern bicycles are more than welcome.
Free to join, the Saturday, Oct. 11 leisurely ride includes regular stops for refreshments, games, and more. Registration opens at 11am in River Prairie Park in Altoona at the splash pad, and the ride starts at 12:15pm. (Oh, and a group portrait will be taken at the gazebo in the 10th Street Park, and registered riders will receive an electronic copy of the photo.)
From the 10th Street Park, the ride moves on to The Yard (211 Division St., Altoona) for yet more merriment before heading out at 2:30pm to Lake Altoona Park where the full splendor of costumes and décor can be enjoyed – and judged for awards! Riders are asked to bring picnic supplies and lawn and parlor games. The return ride will begin at 5pm.
Organized by a group of passionate community members and organizations – Bike Chippewa Valley, Visit Eau Claire, CORBA and Valley Girls Cycling Club – the first-time ride welcomes children and pets too. A special thanks to Ryan Balk, Bill Berg, Patti Cleary, Tina Deetz, Kennedy Domerchie, and Jeremy Gragert is extended from organizers, for their enthusiasm and efforts in putting together the ride.
In the event of inclement weather, the ride will still be held (though if the weather is absolutely terrible, organizers say they may shorten or reschedule the event). So, whip out your tweed or vintage-style 'fit, hop on a bike, and get in on the for-fun community ride!
