“Take My Hand” (2023) • 16" x 20" • Oil on panel by Savannah Canavan • About the artwork, from the artist: "My painting process often begins with a random inspiration. A phrase, or a feeling, or an image that digs into my brain and demands to be turned into something else. The inspiration for Take My Hand came from a song lyric. I was listening to the song Everywhere, Everything by Noah Kahan, and the line he sings "till our fingers decompose, keep my hand in yours" just stuck in my head for weeks until I got a sketch down and finally a painting. This abstract idea influenced by a song I listened to, has evolved into a visual manifestation of the hold that death has on us, especially the deaths of those we have loved and lost."
