“Milkweed“ by Bonnie Fetzek

Bonnie Fetzek is an Eau Claire watercolor artist who started painting at age 50. She enjoys painting, biking, snowshoeing and gardening with her husband,  and drawing with the Eau Claire Urban Sketchers.

 

“Milkweed” (2024) • 18" x 22" • Watercolor and mixed media • From artist: “Milkweed is one of many Wisconsin watercolors painted from my photos of our yard and woods; the milkweed popped up in our ditch. I love conveying the whimsical movement of this plant. The background is Japanese oguru paper and whispy filaments are liquid acrylic; the rest is watercolor. I use 300-pound Arches paper using mostly transparent paint with some earthy opaques, because I love the way the transparents bleed into the opaques when both are damp.

Although I started painting florals with textured backgrounds, I also enjoy exploring landscape painting in an impressionist style. Favorite subjects are Eau Claire bridges and surrounding rural areas. My paintings hang at French Press Cafe and Juanitas Restaurant in Eau Claire and Altoona."
