Stephen Michaels has spent decades honing his craft – turning dreams into reality
As a child, did you ever dream of doing something incredible when you grew up? Perhaps your friends and family told you, 'you can't do that!' Maybe you gave up on that dream because you believed them.
Stephen Michaels always wanted to be an entertainer – but his friends and family told him that very thing: 'You're just chasing a dream – it'll never happen!' But he never stopped dreaming. Today, that dream is no more; Michaels' dream came true.
Stephen hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has called Eau Claire home since 2005. He has been entertaining audiences since 1965 with his music, acting, stand-up comedy, and magic and illusion shows. Over the years, he has garnered several accolades, including three Best Actor Spotlight Awards; one Best Supporting Actor Barney Award; and two Magician of the Year Awards.

He has toured across the country three times – as well as seven country world tours – with 10 weeks performing at the Side Lounge Theatre in Las Vegas. During and since then, Stephen has created four new magic and illusion shows, utilizing more than $30,000 in equipment, and over 120 magic and illusion tricks.
Stephen has been fascinated by illusions and magic since he was 12 years old, and recalls watching Houdini; commercials from "The Mark Wilson" and "The Marshall Brodien" TV magic kits (which he ordered); Jerry Lewis's Carnival Kit, and more. Stephen began performing magic shows at neighborhood carnivals, often embedding humor in his acts – so he built on that. "The Comical Magic of Michael the Magician" flourishes with and invites audience participation.
As time went on and Stephen became even more intrigued by the unexplained mysteries of magic, he created "Mr. X – The Mystery Man of Magic," an act which requires his wearing a black hood to conceal his identity and mystery. After Stephen landed the lead role in a production of The Phantom of the Opera, that show evolved into "The Mysterious Magic of the Phantom Magician."
Stephen's craft continued to evolve and soon, the large stage called – and his magic became illusions. With levitations, sawing-in-half acts, the guillotine, escape routines, and more, "The Grand Illusions of Night Hawk the Illusionist" was born. By combining all three of his unique shows together, "The Dream Show" was born, a Las Vegas-style magic and illusion production and "A Journey Through The Magical Years."
Stephen now brings his shows to small-town America for a variety of city festivals, state and county fairs, company parties, school events and children's parties, charity fundraiser benefits, and more. After all, magic is fun for all ages, Stephen says.
