While summertime may have you thinking ‘ice cream’ when you’re craving a sweet treat, there’s a new joint in town that may have just what you need: Sweet Boba House.

The brand-new small biz recently opened at 2602 Craig Road in Eau Claire (the former Monster Scoop ice cream parlor) and its menu is bursting with flavor – and a ton of options.

Longtime local Mai Vang decided to take the leap into the local food scene after 15 years working in the healthcare industry – including as a registered nurse during the height of COVID-19. The seemingly sudden pivot was more of a longtime dream, realized.

“My husband and I had a heartfelt conversation about life and our careers,” Mai told us back in March. “During that deep conversation, I realized that I am not content doing life as we had.”

With just one other specialty boba shop in the area – the locally-owned Star Cup, also in Eau Claire – it's fair to say, the Chippewa Valley had some wiggle room to add even more variety to its sweets and sips scene.

Sweet Boba House’s menu features several sections: Brown Sugar Boba; Fruit Slush; Tastea Fruit Tea; Simple Swirl; Matcha Green Tea Latte; Smoothies; and a few others. Plus, there are four flavors of cake slices also on the menu as a food option (cookies and cream, tiger boba delight, strawberry dream, and matcha cloud cake).

The stars of the menu might just be the specialty drink options, which include Tiger Créme Brûlée Boba, Taro Meets Ube Smoothie, Strawberry Dreamy Delight, and a few other flavors. As with most boba places, you can also choose from a variety of boba types (popping, tapioca pearls, jellies, and crystal boba) and other toppings.

Basically, there are near-endless combinations to keep you coming back for more. Oh, and if you’re already a boba-drinkin’ pro, you can skip the line and go straight to the self-order kiosks (credit and debit cards only, at those).

As Sweet Boba House gets its proverbial sea legs, the shop will operate with temporary hours: Thursday through Sunday from 11am-7pm.
