“Overwhelming Anxiety” (2024) • Ink, colored pencil, and collage by Maddie Kopp •  From the artist: “Expression of past experiences and emotions are a crucial part of my creative process. Throughout my life I have been using art therapy as an outlet to prevent emotions from bottling up within me. To express emotions, I use different types of mark making as well as different colors, designs, lighting, and techniques. These things are very important as they display the emotions I was feeling at that time. Dark, bold, intense, lines and shadows are an example of how negative emotions come through. Warmer colors, thinner lines, and bright highlights oftentimes display positive channeled emotions. I think that everyone has a way of expressing themselves and sharing their story through a creative process or special talent, and art as therapy is mine.”

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
