GO, PACK, GO. Green and Gold is slated to premiere nationwide on Jan. 31, bringing Wisconsin to the big screen in a big way. The film is supported by Culver's and the Green Bay Packers, and made its premiere on Jan. 3 at the Lambeau Field Atrium.

When Green and Gold hits theaters Jan. 31, people across the nation will get a glimpse into Wisconsin culture from three of the state’s icons: the Green Bay Packers, Culver’s, and farmers. Eau Claire viewers will hear something even closer to home in the film, thanks to Eau Claire-based musicians Sean Carey and Courtney Hartman.

Green and Gold premiered at Lambeau Field on Jan. 3, where director Anders Lindwall and producer Davin Lindwall – yes, they’re brothers! – walked the red carpet alongside Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy, Culver’s co-founder Craig Culver, comedian Charlie Berens (who plays a radio host in the film), and Emmy Award-winning actor Craig T. Nelson, who portrays the main character, Buck.

Set in the early 1990s, the film follows a struggling fourth-generation farmer, Buck, as he tries to save the family farm from foreclosure. His granddaughter, Jenny (Madison Lawlor), works with him on the farm but dreams of being a musician. Then, Buck throws the biggest Hail Mary of his life: He wagers everything – including the farm – on the Green Bay Packers winning the 1993 Super Bowl.

Green and Gold, filmed about three years ago, isn’t just about Wisconsin, it was also filmed there. As Berens and Anders Lindwall noted in pre-premiere interviews, it is quite rare for movies to be filmed in Wisconsin due to the state’s lack of tax credit incentives. In fact, if the Lindwall brothers had decided to shoot with a studio, the film would not have been shot in Wisconsin for that very reason.

The film is inspired by the Lindwalls’ grandfather, a Midwestern dairy farmer. “This is not just a film; It is a project built from the love and traditions of where we come from. … The journey from script to screen has been deeply personal, filled with moments that tested our resolve and reinforced why this story needed to be told,” the Green and Gold website states.

While the details of the film’s soundtrack have yet to be released, promo materials for Green and Gold highlight the participation of both S. Carey (also a member of Eau Claire-based Bon Iver) and Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Jackson Browne.

Green and Gold will hit local screens on Friday, Jan. 31, including Micon Cinema’s theaters in Chippewa Falls and downtown Eau Claire; the Menomonie 7 theater; and the Stanley Theater. Tickets are up for grabs now through the respective theaters websites.
