The West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is asking locals to help shape the future of outdoor recreation by filling out an online survey by Jan. 17.
WCWRPC’s regional survey – which covers Buffalo, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, and Trempealeau counties – will help organizers identify popular outdoor activities and destinations, as well as what barriers and challenges may be limiting recreational participation. The survey also aims to discover opportunities for improving outdoor recreation facilities and programs, and ensure that the region’s outdoor spaces meet the needs of its communities.
Responses to the survey are anonymous, and the roughly 20-question survey taking about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Some of the questions are activity specific – asking about trail-related, water, winter, hunting, leisure, and other outdoors activities – while some ask about what improvements or expansions could be made in the eight-county area. Others are more broad, and ask respondents to fill in their own answers.
“This survey is part of a larger Regional Outdoor Recreation Plan (RORP) that is being supported by multiple partners and a grant through the USDA’s Rural Business Development Grant,” said Ross Pietrzak, WCWPRC senior planner. “The survey results will be used to inform public meeting sessions and the RORP itself.”
Other partners and agencies involved include Visit Eau Claire, the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission, National Park Service, and others.
