The City of Eau Claire is updating its Five-Year Consolidated Plan and is seeking input from residents through its Fair Housing Survey, which is available online through Jan. 15.
The Five-Year Consolidated Plan contains strategies and priorities for spending federal funds received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships Program. Results from the housing survey will help inform the city’s budget and program priorities, aiming to ensure funds are allocated to the area’s most critical needs.
Open to Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley residents ages 18-plus, the 41-question survey is anonymous and will take roughly 15 minutes to complete. While the survey is open to all, the primary intended recipients are low- and moderate-income residents. Initial questions ask about self-identification – age, race/ethnicity, if you are an Eau Claire resident or not and your ZIP code, etc. – while the rest aim to “understand public consensus on how well housing in Eau Claire meets the needs of various households.”
The survey questions are largely multiple choice though a couple offer space to type in your own thoughts. Topics include rental and home affordability; public resources (water/sewer service, schools, police and fire protection, garbage collection, etc.); transportation needs; housing discrimination; homelessness, and more.
"Your input will inform and help shape community development, affordable housing, and fair housing policies in the City of Eau Claire for years to come," Housing Authority Executive Director Jessica Oleson-Bue said.
