Eau Claire residents with critical health needs have a new option: OakLeaf Clinics has opened an Urgent Care practice inside its clinic on Eau Claire’s south side. The new practice, 3802 W. Oakwood Mall Drive, is the third Urgent Care facility that OakLeaf has opened this year (the others are in Menomonie and Chippewa Falls).

The addition of the urgent care facilities comes in the aftermath of the closure of Prevea clinics and two HSHS hospitals – Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s – in the Chippewa Valley earlier this year.

“Our Chippewa Falls and Menomonie Urgent Cares have been busy since they opened in May and June, with many patients traveling from Eau Claire to be treated,” said Dr. Erik Dickson, medical director for Urgent Care at OakLeaf Clinics, in a media release. “Both Eau Claire Emergency Rooms have reported significant double-digit increases in ER visits since the spring. We hope that by adding our Eau Claire Urgent Care, we can help keep more patients out of the ERs and help lower wait times for ER patients.”

In a media announcement Tuesday, OakLeaf Clinics said it has hired several advanced practice providers as well as support staff to provide treatment at the Urgent Care facilities.

Urgent Care facilities are drop-in clinics meant for patients with urgent – but not life-threatening – injuries or illnesses. According to a media release, “OakLeaf Clinics Urgent Care facilities can treat a wide range of illnesses, including asthma, allergic reactions, cough, cold symptoms, flu, pink eye, UTIs, ear infections, bug bites, sinus pressure and/or infections, bronchitis, and strep throat, as well as conditions such as minor cuts, animal bites, falls, sprains, strains, and broken bones. Patients can also receive stitches for simple lacerations.”

OakLeaf Clinics’ Urgent Care sites are open 8am-8pm Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm Saturday and Sunday, and 8am-noon on holidays.

OakLeaf Clinics operates 13 clinics around west-central Wisconsin. It is part of the OakLeaf Medical Network, the largest independent physician association in the region, which encompasses more than 350 providers at 31 clinics in 15 counties.
