The new season of Wisconsin Life on PBS Wisconsin debuted on on Oct. 10, and among its first handful of episodes in November is a familiar scene for many Eau Clairians: the U.S. National Kubb Championship.

The kubb tournament celebrated its 17th year this past summer, hosted at the Eau Claire Soccer Park from July 11-13, and welcomed a record amount of teams: 144. Plenty of Midwesterners were part of those teams – including the 2024 National Champions team, Chaska Super Funky Badasses (Chaska, Minnesota + Amery, Wisconsin) – but also folks from overseas, including Belgium, Sweden, and other nations.

The U.S. National Kubb Championship in Eau Claire is featured in a new Wisconsin Life episode on PBS Wisconsin, scheduled to air on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7pm.

Eau Claire is the proud self-proclaimed Kubb Capital of North America, and it’s a serious sport here – or rather, seriously fun. “The game changes lives, according to its most ardent participants,” a recent media release from PBS Wisconsin stated. “The game of tossing your team’s wooden blocks to known down your opponents’ and gain strategic positions unites players in friendly competition.”

The U.S. National Kubb Championship in Eau Claire is featured in a new Wisconsin Life episode on PBS Wisconsin, scheduled to air on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7pm. It is also streaming for free online at that time.

This season’s episodes will air on Thursday nights into the new year with host Angela Fitzgerald connecting its audience with people whose passions, experiences, and expertise celebrate the best of Wisconsin.

The new season will also feature Fitzgerald exploring the Pringle Nature Center in Kenosha County’s Bristol, the Wisconsin Concrete Park in Phillips, the Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, the State Archive Preservation Facility in Madison, and more.
