Do you know a burgeoning young writer? Or are you someone in grades third through eighth who wants to share original poetry, prose, fiction, or nonfiction with the world? Then grab a pen or boot up your laptop, because the Chippewa Valley Book Festival is seeking entries for this year’s Young Writers Showcase.
Entries are due at 4pm Sunday, Sept. 29. The official entry form and directions can be found at this link. Here are the basic guidelines:
- One submission in each category is accepted per author.
- Keep a copy of your work, as it will not be returned to you.
- Although submitted pieces can be longer, readings should be shortened to no longer than 3-4 minutes.
- Credit must be given for ideas inspired by other works. Credit can be a simple statement at the end or beginning of the reading.
- Entry form must be signed by your parent or guardian.
Chosen writers will read their works on stage on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Grand Theatre, 102 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire. Winners will also receive gift cards from Dotters Books. The event is sponsored by Royal Credit Union and the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild.
The Young Writers Showcase is part of the Chippewa Valley Book Festival, which will run Oct. 17-22 with both in-person and virtual events. Learn more at cvbookfest.org.
