Micon Cinemas to Host Studio Ghibli Festival Through End of Year
don't get ‘Spirited Away,’ but there are more than 10 Studio Ghibli films comin’ to town
Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 is hitting the big screen, locally, thanks to Micon Cinemas.
The beloved Japanese animation studio, founded in 1985, has created captivating, award-winning animated films that have garnered a cult following, and fans continuing to relish in its breathtaking cinematic works.
The ongoing festival will show 14 animated features at the Downtown Cinema (315 S. Barstow St., Eau Claire), and will run for the rest of the year. The fest kicked off in April with the re-release of Spirited Away, and will conclude on Dec. 7 with My Neighbor Tortoro.
Recently, Downtown Micon has almost exclusively shown retro movies including the full Harry Potter film series, Steven Spielberg’s E.T., Jurassic Park, and will screen even more film fests and events throughout the year.
Co-owner Connie Olson said there has been overwhelming success in response to the location’s special tribute to retro movies. Folks can expect more classic and nostalgic films to hit screens soon.
Tickets are available directly from theater box offices or through the Micon website, miconcinemas.com.
