SWEETS & CHEESE: Top 5 Snacks at The Local Store

these snacks were snagged the most by hungry customers in the first quarter of 2024

The Local Store is a proprietor of all things local and Midwestern: art of all types, apparel and jewelry, home goods, gardening wares, glassware, kids stuff, pet stuff, and of course, snacks and beverages. From January-March of this year, the following were the top five most-purchased snacks. If you trust local tastebuds, you’ll want to try them out yourself!

1. Dewey Street Caramels

For $7 you can have seven pieces of The Dewey Street Candy Company’s luscious, melt-in-your-mouth caramels! You’ll get a little taste of local history, too: The very building where you can purchase these caramels – The Local Store & Volume One World Headquarters (205 N. Dewey St., Eau Claire) – was originally a candy factory in the late 1800s, with the R.L. Meader Co. crafting treats right here. Today, The Dewey Street Candy Co. is an in-house brand commemorating that history through tasty treats. Apparently they’re as good as we think, since they’re one of The Local Store’s top sellers so far this year.

2. Maple Candy

These leaf- and assorted-shaped maple candy pieces created right in Cashton, Wisconsin, are as sweet as they are cute! Coming in a six-piece box, they’re a more unique, Midwestern-y sweet to treat yourself with.

3. Ellsworth Creamery White Cheese Curds

Unsurprisingly, squeaky curds were one of The Local Store’s top snack sellers, too. Luckily for the Chippewa Valley, we won’t ever run out of these for long since they’re crafted just over in Ellsworth! You’ll have to swing into the shop in person since we keep them in our meat and cheese cooler, keeping them fresh and squeaky for ya. Made from farm-certified rBST-free milk, these Ellsworth Cheese Curds are perfect to grab on the go.

4. Love Wisconsin Chocolate Bar

This aptly shaped chocolate bar – available in milk or white chocolate, both gluten free! – is perfect for your sweet tooth or to gift to a loved one. In the shape of our dear Dairy State with a heart-shape stamped in, send some chocolatey love to someone with this treat!

5. Chocolate Cow Pie

Made in Baraboo, Wisconsin, you don't know joy until you snack on a Cow Pie. Apparently, the Peanut Butter variety is the best, according to The Local Store customers! Made with roasted peanuts, caramel, creamy peanut butter, and milk chocolate, if this doesn’t satisfy your sweet tooth, I’m not sure what will.
